How is overtime pay calculated in Macau?
The Labour Relations Law sets normal hours at 8/day and 48/week; overtime requires a written agreement within 36 hours in advance, and compensation is either extra pay (50%–100% above normal wage) or time off in lieu.
Overtime pay calculation: (1) **Normal hours** — 8/day and 48/week; time beyond that is overtime. (2) **Agreement** — the employer and employee must agree in writing at least 36 hours before overtime, specifying the date, time, and compensation. (3) **Rates** — **weekday overtime** (beyond 8 hours) is paid at **+50%** of the normal hourly rate (1.5×); **holiday overtime** (rest day or statutory holiday) is paid at **+100%** (2×); **night work** (10 pm–6 am) is also overtime and cannot simply be replaced by compensation. (4) **Time off in lieu** — employer and employee may agree to compensatory rest instead of extra pay, but the time off must be at least equal to the overtime hours.
